Part P — electrical work

  • New circuits, consumer unit replacement, and work in special locations (e.g. bathrooms) may be notifiable — see Approved Document P and BS 7671.
  • Dwellings: registered competent-person scheme or Building Control sign-off for notifiable work.
  • Keep evidence — test results, certificates, and as-fitted diagrams.

Quick checklist on site

  1. What type of work is it — electrical, structure, ventilation, access?
  2. Domestic or commercial? New build or retrofit?
  3. Is it likely notifiable or needs a Building Notice?
  4. Do you have drawings, specs, and test records?
  5. If unsure — stop and call Building Control or your supervisor.
