How to ask good questions

You do not need to know document numbers. Describe the job, the room or area, and what you are trying to do.

Good examples

• “Adding a double socket above the bathroom sink in a flat — is that allowed?”
• “Loft conversion — do I need a fire door on the bedroom off the landing?”
• “Installing 7kW EV charger on garage wall — cable route through cavity wall.”
• “Trickle vents in new extension — minimum free area for a kitchen?”

Include when you can

• Dwelling vs commercial / new build vs retrofit
• Whether Building Control is already involved
• Photos are not supported yet — describe what you see

Avoid

• One-word questions (“Part P?”)
• Asking for a definitive yes/no without context
• Treating the reply as a sign-off for notifiable work
